What is an ArtCenter Exchange Program?

Spend a term at one of ArtCenter’s partner institutions around the world. Earn up to 15 transfer credits. You will pay ArtCenter tuition for the term and maintain your financial aid package as eligible. Housing and other expenses are additional.

How To Apply

Step 1 — Apply through Global Programs — no fee to apply
Submit your application through the Global Programs Application Portal.

Step 2 — Department Nomination & Partner University Application
If nominated by your department, you will then submit a second application directly to Gobelins University.

Academics

Open to

Majors: Entertainment Design (Animation + Concept Tracks)

Credit

  • Transfer up to 15 credits to ArtCenter.

Schedule

  • Fall term: early September – late December


Eligibility

• Have completed at least four undergraduate terms or two graduate terms prior to the term away
• Have at least one term remaining at ArtCenter after returning
• Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
• Not be on academic or disciplinary probation at the time of application

Cost

Administrative fee

After you are nominated by your department and accepted by the exchange university, you will pay a $250 feeto ArtCenter Global Program to confirm your participation.

ArtCenter Tuition
Tuition for this exchange program is the same as full-time ArtCenter tuition for the term, including financial aid as eligible.

Additional estimated expenses to consider

• Housing (varies by location)
• Round-trip international airfare: up to $1,500
• Passport: $135
• Visa (if required) and student residence permit (if required)
• Supplemental health insurance policy (if required by the location)
• School project supplies (as needed)
• Daily living expenses (meals, transportation, etc.): $500–$600 per month, varies by location and personal budget

Financial aid and scholarships are not available from the exchange institution.

About the Program

Gobelins, l’école de l’image is internationally recognized for its programs in animation, motion design, photography, interactive design, and digital communication. The school combines creative, technical, and professional training through project-based learning, workshops, collaborative studio environments, and industry partnerships. Students work on interdisciplinary projects while developing both conceptual and production skills aligned with contemporary creative industries. Gobelins also maintains strong connections with industry professionals through guest lectures, juries, mentorship, and collaborative projects.

Credits at ArtCenter typically transfer as:

  • 12–15 studio credits

  • Up to 3 Humanities & Sciences credits (if eligible)

  • 10ECTS/5 Studio Credits

    This course introduces advanced 3D animation techniques while building on foundational 2D animation principles.

    Students learn to:

    • Apply the 12 principles of animation in 3D workflows

    • Work in a 3D environment using Maya

    • Create and manage scenes, references, and previews

    • Open, test, and evaluate 3D rigs

    • Develop animation through:

      • Blocking

      • Blocking+

      • Spline

      • Polish stages

  • 10ECTS/5 Studio Credits

    This course focuses on 2D special effects animation through practical exercises and collaborative production work.

    Students work in teams to create short narrative FX sequences while developing skills in:

    • 2D special effects techniques

    • Story-driven animation

    • Team collaboration and production workflows

    • Creative problem-solving in group environments

  • 10 ECTS/5 credits

    This course focuses on documenting and reflecting on the exchange experience through structured written communication in English.

    Students develop skills in:

    • Writing structured reports in English

    • Synthesizing and organizing information

    • Identifying and communicating key insights

    • Reflecting on academic and cultural experiences
