PAY FOR STUDY AWAY

billing + payments

ArtCenter is committed to making study away an accessible option for all students. However, our team understands the challenges related to funding a study away opportunity. We strive to make sure that our programming is as affordable as possible. Costs vary by program. In certain cases, it may actually cost less to go abroad for a term than remain in Pasadena! Other times, there are additional expenses to consider.

Payment for all programs also works slightly different. Read about the various program types to gain a better understanding of how payment and financial aid works. Then explore the various options below for further financing your time away.

The Exchange and Study Away (ESA) team is always available to help you navigate the complexities of budgeting for a study away experience.

Set up a 1:1 advising meeting today. It’s never too early to begin planning.

Program Costs

  • Faculty-Led Programs

On Faculty-Led programs, students maintain their regular financial aid package, pay ArtCenter tuition for the number of units they are earning, and then pay a program fee that ranges in cost. The program fee typically covers housing, mandatory insurance, and various entrance fees. The fee ranges in cost from $0-$5,000, depending on the program. The fee is applied directly to your ArtCenter bill and due the term you go abroad.

  • Exchange programs

On exchange programs, students maintain their regular financial aid package, pay full-time ArtCenter tuition, and then pay for their housing out-of-pocket. In some cases, exchange partners have housing available that students can pay the university for. In other cases, students will need to search for housing, just as they do at ArtCenter, and pay on their own.

  • Individualized programs

On Individualized Programs, students can utilize their state and federal aid but ArtCenter aid cannot be used. Students pay ArtCenter only a $200 Administrative Fee, and pay all other program costs directly to the program. Often times, program fees include room and board and can end up costing less than a term at ArtCenter, even after you account for the loss of ArtCenter aid. ESA staff can help you do a cost comparison to find the right program for your budget!
